Bennett Elementary Students Strut Down the Runway

Math just got more interesting at Bennett Elementary, as students designed outfits inspired by math models learned throughout the year.

The students selected a type of math model they had learned about this year from multiplying and dividing decimals to adding and subtracting fractions. They had to identify what type of model it was and the key attributes of the model. The students then had to get creative and sketch the model as a fashion item that someone could wear down the runway. Students were encouraged to think outside of the box to make their math model come to life.

“I wanted to find a fun, creative way for my students to review all the math models we have learned about this year in fifth grade math,” said Brittany Ferrell, math teacher at Bennett

Ferrell got the idea from the show America's Next Top Model, entitling the project America’s Next Top Math Model. This was the very first time a project like this had been done at Bennett and the students thoroughly enjoyed themselves. After all the students finished the fashion show for the fourth-grade audience, the Pre-Kindergarten students stopped by for the encore.
