For over two decades the Lubbock Lions Club has hosted a "Drug Awareness Poster" contest to help the local schools raise awareness for drug and alcohol abuse. This is the second year Bennett Elementary has had students participate in the poster contest.
All third, fourth, and fifth graders at Bennett participated in the contest. The students worked on all artwork in art class. First and second place winners are chosen in each grade level and the first-place students move on to the Lubbock County Contest.
The Bennett winners are:
3rd grade: 1st place Sophie Reed (advancing)
2nd place Arch Parsons
4th grade: 1st place Jane Moser (advancing)
2nd place Kenna Grant
5th grade: 1st place Brianna Avendano (advancing)
2nd place Presley Hutcheson
“The Lubbock Lions Club reached out to us last year about the contest and we were so excited to participate” said Amanda Lara, art teacher at Bennett. “Last year, then 4th grader Brianna Avendano won 1st place for the 4th grade division in the Lubbock County contest.”
