Bennett Elementary Takes Unique Approach with Food Drive

Bennett Elementary stocked the Caring and Sharing Closet for the fall semester with a “Drop By and Drop Off Food Drive” today. As cars lined the drop off and pick up areas at the school, volunteers were seen pushing grocery carts to cars to gather food items. The food was then taken to large bins along the sidewalk to be sorted for distribution. The food gathered goes into backpacks that are sent home to Bennett families in need to help supplement their food supply over the weekend each week throughout the school year.

“It’s Tigers helping Tigers,” said Jamie Mills, mom of 2nd grade student at Bennett and lead volunteer. “It takes a lot of work and planning, but at the end of the day it’s worth it to help families who need it.”

The program relies on donations and PTA funds to operate. From one can of food to cases of food, the Bennett community showed their support of one another with a closet full today. It’s a great example of the Frenship Way.
