Bennett Transforms Traffic Light into Educational Opportunity

A new traffic signal went live in front of Bennett Elementary School on October 22nd. First graders at Bennett turned the seemingly uninspiring event into a creative project integrating history, civil engineering and writing.

Students first studied traffic light inventor Garrett Morgan. Students then took a trip outside to see the new traffic light by Bennett, observed how it works, watched the cars stop and go, and discussed what might happen if it was not there.

Each student composed a short article focusing on why the traffic light was an important invention. Lastly, students completed an interactive writing lesson in which they wrote a thank you letter to The City of Wolfforth for the new light.
